Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening or teeth bleaching is the most common procedure in cosmetic dentistry. While many whitening options are now available, including over the counter products, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discoloured teeth.

Normally, as a person ages, the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth. In addition, teeth can become stained by any number of factors including coffee, tea, bacterial pigments, certain foods, red wine, tobacco or certain enamel defects may also lead to yellow discoloured teeth.

It is generally recommended to have your teeth checked by a dentist before undergoing any whitening method. The dentist will examine the patient thoroughly, take a health and dental history (including allergies and sensitivities), observe hard and soft tissues, placement and conditions of restorations, and sometimes x-rays to determine the nature and depth of possible irregularities.

A shade guide is then used to measure tooth colour, which will determine the effectiveness of the whitening procedure.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding is the process of applying a material called dental composite to the teeth to make them look better. Patients who come in for composite bonding often feel that their natural teeth are slightly crooked, not as white as they want, cracked or chipped.

Composite bonding refers to the front teeth rather than ‘composite fillings’ which are for the back teeth or dental crowns which cover all of the surfaces of the tooth not just the visible parts.

Crowns

Dental crowns are a common treatment used to strengthen damaged or broken teeth without looking out of place. They consist of a small “cap” that is added to the top of the damaged tooth and are usually made from porcelain, however, a variety of different materials are available depending on your individual requirements.

All our dental crowns are made from casts of your original teeth to ensure that they don’t look out of place and are fixed with dental cement to ensure they are permanent.

Veneers

Where front teeth are either fractured or discoloured, porcelain veneers can be considered. Veneers are thin, tooth shaped and tooth coloured porcelain layers which can be used to cover or repair front teeth.

Veneers are used to make teeth look natural and straight by improving their colour, shape and position. They are particularly effective when teeth are discoloured, broken, chipped or crooked. Each veneer is individually made for you to fit perfectly over the surface of your existing teeth. They perfectly match the colour, appearance and translucence of your natural teeth, restoring, and often enhancing your appearance.

Bridges

Dental bridges are similar to dental crowns but are used when a group of teeth are damaged beyond repair or missing.

They are specially fabricated for you and are permanently fitted to ensure they stay strong and secure. We also take care that our dental bridges are made to fit in with the rest of your teeth discreetly to give a natural and beautiful smile.

Implants

A dental implant is a substitute for the root of a missing tooth. Implants are used to replace single teeth by placing a porcelain crown on top. Alternatively, multiple teeth can be replaced by placing a dental bridge over several implants.

They can also be used to hold dentures in position. Dental implants are a very elegant solution to the problem of a missing tooth. They are fixed in position, look and feel like natural teeth, and avoid the problems associated with bridges or dentures. They are the closest thing in dentistry to natural teeth.
